TO THE ELECTORS OF

ST. MARY'S WARD

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have accepted an invitation to offer myself as a candidate at the forthcoming election in St Mary's Ward on THURSDAY, 13th MAY, 1954 - believing that MORE YOUNG PEOPLE SHOULD TAKE an ACTIVE INTEREST in HOW our town is GOVERNED.

I am a YOUNG MAN, single and 22 years of age - born and bred in Wolverhampton (son of the late Frederick Gray, who was an Inspector in the machine shop at the G.W.R. Stafford Road Works) and educated at St. Chad's College from where I gained a State Scholarship to the Birmingham University.

In National Politics I am a Conservative, but DO NOT BELIEVE in our local council chamber becoming a Political PLATFORM. Candidates who PUT PARTY BEFORE the WELFARE of our town are NOT the people to send to the Town Hall.

If you do me the honour of electing me as your representative I propose to support ALL measures FOR the CAREFUL and WISE spending of the ratepayer's money.

I would pay PARTICULAR attention to the HOUSING PROBLEM in St. Mary's Ward. The conditions MUST be IMPROVED for those living in the OLDER TYPES of Houses.

Finally, it may not be possible for me to call and see you all personally, but, I sincerely ask YOU to USE your vote in MY favour and - GIVE YOUTH A CHANCE.

Paul Gray
